istock_000003296583xsmall.jpgWelcome to Golf Swing Thoughts.

I can only assume that you, like everyone else, are a golfer wanting to improve your swing. I know that I’ve had the “swing of the week” now for twenty years and keep seeking the swing that will make me the golf weekend superstar. Maybe I’ll find it someday.

That, however, is why I’ve started this blog. I want to hear from you on what you found that helps your swing – long game and short game.

Feel free to post your thoughts. We look forward to hearing from you.

Left Elbow Faces Target

I was at the driving range and met a guy selling “birdie ball’s”, a neat practice device (looks like a small ceramic tube) that aerodynamically acts just like a ball but doesn’t go far and won’t break too many things. He asked me to try the birdie balls. He noticed my draw and I told him I was having a heck of a time getting rid of it.

He then told me what he considers the best kept secret in golf – Keep your left elbow (if you’re right handed) facing the target – from set up through the swing. It’s helping me a lot.

No Active Lower Body Movement

I was talking to someone who competes in long drive contests. Believe me, he hits it far.One of the things he mentioned was that he doesn’t actively use his lower body. He said the only movement of his lower body is mechanical movement caused by the upper body. He said he actually thinks of his lower body as “paralyzed.” That’s somewhat gruesome, but it does drive the point that a lot of players swing with their upper body only.
